The Countdown Begins with a GIVEAWAY!!

As you probably know (because we pretty much haven’t shut up about it over the last month), the long-awaited sequel to the first book in the Austen Adventures series, The Unexpected Past of Miss Jane Austen, is coming out one month today (7th November 2019… It’s already the 7th somewhere in the world, isn’t it?)

Billed by our publisher, Canelo Escape, as a page-turning story of adventure, friendship and family, the story picks up where the first book in the series, The Particular Charm of Miss Jane Austen, ends, taking the familiar characters on another exciting escapade, this time into the past.

You can read the blurb to The Unexpected Past of Miss Jane Austen here, and you can find it up for pre-order on the ‘Where to Buy‘ page here.

Read below on how to enter a FREE GIVEAWAY for a paperback of the first book in the series!

bookcoverfrontThe Particular Charm of Miss Jane Austen was released in September, and to celebrate the run-up to the release of the sequel, we’re giving away THREE copies of the paperback edition of the book.

The giveaway is free to enter and is open worldwide! All you have to do to enter is leave a comment telling us your favourite Jane Austen novel or adaptation. That’s it! No more, no less!

Entries close at midnight UK time on Sunday, 20th October 2019, and the names of all entrants will be entered in the draw, with three winners selected by an impartial third party.

Winners will be announced here on the Blog and the news will be shared on social media. If a prize is not claimed within seven days of the winners being announced, a further name will be chosen to receive the book.

So what’s it about? Here’s the blurb of this uplifting, comedic tale of time travel and friendship:

Rose Wallace’s world revolves around all things Austen, and with the annual festival in Bath – and the arrival of dishy archaeologist, Dr Aiden Trevellyan– just around the corner, all is well with the world…

But then a mysterious woman who bears more than a passing resemblance to the great author moves in upstairs, and things take a disastrous turn. Rose’s new neighbour is Jane Austen, whose time travel adventure has been sabotaged by a mischievous dog, trapping her in the twenty-first century.

Rose’s life is instantly changed – new home, new job, new friends – but she’s the only one who seems to have noticed! To right the world around her, she will have to do whatever it takes to help Jane get back home to write Rose’s beloved novels. Because a world without Mr Darcy? It’s not worth living in!

    1. Thank you for entering the draw, Tara! It IS a tough call, isn’t it? Persuasion is my favourite, but Sense & Sensibility is coming up the charts! I’ve grown to love it more in recent years.

    2. Thank you Tara! I’m just getting back in town after being gone again and yours is the first comment so now I’m wondering if I can predict which adaptations will be most popular…

    2. Hello there!
This book looks great. Love the cover design.

My favourite Jane Austen’s novel is, without a doubt, Persuasion. Love the main characters, Captain Wentworth and Anne Elliot. Their story of love, suffering, hope, and conquest is so gripping… For me, it’s a flawless literary work.

Good luck in the draw for the book!

Good luck in the draw! I hope you get to enjoy the book! It’s a fun read!

  2. My favourite Austen novel will always be Persuasion because of the 2nd chance scenario and what makes this book stand out from the other Austen novels is THE LOVE LETTER.

As for adaptations, and this is not an adaptation of a novel, but I really enjoyed Miss Austen Regrets – simply because it allows me to enter hypothetically into Jane’s world. I love nothing better ❤

    1. Oh my, that letter, Diana! ❤ As you know from reading this book, it means a lot to me too!

I really enjoyed Miss Austen Regrets too. I thought they captured her wit so well, but I did cry so much at the end! 😦

    2. Thank you Diana 😉
I also only hypothetically want to enter Jane’s world because chamber pots never appealed to me… or were they water closets by that point?

  4. Excited to read the next one. I love all of Austen’s titles, but Pride and Prejudice is my favorite ♥️♥️♥️

    1. We hope you enjoy it, Christine!

P&P was my favourite when I was younger, but I’ve gravitated towards Persuasion now. Love them all, though, for different reasons!

      Good luck!

    1. I agree, Sarah! I always think it’s a shame when a reader misses the point of it!

      Good luck in the draw!

  5. Although they all hold a special place in my heart, Emma is by far my favourite. Her well meaning, but meddlesome, ways are endearing and each character seems to float off the page with every re-read. The line “Badly done, Emma!” is still the most heartbreaking rebuke I’ve ever heard.

    1. It’s a wonderful novel, Gillian, I agree! I feel Jane was becoming quite the accomplished writer by then (and that’s not to belittle what had come before, because they are all fabulous!) Somehow, it feels as though the words just drifted from her pen at will! The characters are fantastic – such creations as Mrs Elton and Miss Bates!! As for Mr Knightley and Emma – just adorable, faults and all! ❤

      Good luck in the draw!

    2. Thanks for entering, Gillian! I feel like Emma has the most spunk – not necessarily as the character but the entire story!

  6. This series sounds fantastic! My fave Austen novel is Northanger Abbey, although the Pride & Prejudice & Zombies film holds a large place in my heart due to how enjoyable ridiculous it is

    1. I haven’t seen the zombies version yet, but so many people love it, I will have to give it a try!

Good luck in the draw, Ashley!!

  7. My favourite book is Persuasion and favourite adaptation is the 1995 Pride and Persuasion xxx

    1. I adore Persuasion, Ashleigh! I feel torn between the adaptations. The rather wooden 1970s version is amusing for how dated it looks, but still have some fabulous shots of Bath. The 1995 is excellent, but there are things I also love about the 2007 one (NOT the running around Bath at the end or the silly, drawn out kiss!) lol

      Good luck in the draw!

  8. Hi! I won a copy of the book with the “original” cover back when it first came out… right here on your blog. I just wanted to say that I’m so excited for the sequel! I think a reread of the first is in order too, to celebrate! Congratulations and best wishes! It should definitely be November 7th somewhere!!

    1. Hello, Kim! I remember you winning!

I do suggest a re-read if you get chance, just to refresh, but if you win one of these copies, they are slightly edited to the original (no change to the plot) and there’s a new opening paragraph!

Hope you enjoy the sequel too!

    1. An evergreen favourite, Junabell! I suspect there are generations yet to come who will fall in love with it as much as we all have. I wish I could read it for the first time again!

      Good luck in the draw.

  9. Hi Ladies! I am beyond excited at the thought of the new book, I cannot wait! And my favourite book is Pride and Prejudice, no, Persuasion, no! Pride and Prejudice! No!! Persuasion!! Oh I don’t know anymore!

    1. LOL, Hazel. That’s exactly the discussion that goes on in my head too! They alternate, but I’ve been leaning towards Persuasion a lot lately.

We’re excited and a bit scared for you to read the sequel! We had so many conflicting opinions from experts on the appearance of Chawton etc back then, we had to just opt for one and hope for the best!
